THE INVESTIGATOR'S NOTES / CASE 005
The story behind the evidence.
THE CASE
What arrived on the desk.
A set of self-directed campaign exercises and independently developed proposal work showing how I turn familiar products, spaces, and growth questions into sharper creative ideas. The Detox Nation exhibit is presented as proposal work. The Huey Magoo's exhibit is a before-and-after redesign of an existing graphic I did not create. The remaining concepts were uncommissioned and created independently as evidence of my process and range.
THE EVIDENCE
What turned up.
- A product benefit is only a starting point; the campaign needs a human tension people recognize.
- A single visual joke can become a repeatable system when the strategic thought is clear.
- Different categories demand different voices, even when the assignment is the same: make the benefit memorable.
THE INVESTIGATION
The strategic read.
Treat every exercise like a live brief. Find the product truth, translate it into one ownable creative territory, and test whether the idea can stretch across multiple executions without losing the point.
THE MOVE
What I did about it.
- Built a workplace-softness territory for Allbirds using sheep inside familiar office moments.
- Turned Tylenol's pain-relief promise into three immediate visual metaphors.
- Used difficult-to-open objects to dramatize Medeco security with product-truth humor.
- Improved an existing Huey Magoo's Blackberry Lemonade graphic through a self-directed visual redesign; I did not create the source graphic.
- Used a hypothetical Bivouac space to compare brand strategy with commercial interior design, translating the brand concept into experience zoning, materials, signage, lighting, and guest behavior.
- Created an interactive print concept for Jackpot Candles in which a controlled-burn paper layer reveals a thin metal ad beneath—making the medium behave like the product and turning readers' curiosity into participation and discovery.
THE RESULT
Case conclusion.
Six self-directed concept and proposal systems plus one clearly credited before-and-after redesign, showing how I move from a product, place, or growth question to strategy, concept, copy, and visual execution.
